Grain in the Signal
Research / prototyping / collaboration
An evolving body of research exploring what happens when the gestures, tools and material logic of making become signals that alter moving image, sound and shared environments.
Bespoke timber interfaces could translate actions such as planing, turning, pressing and sliding into digital signals. Individual actions might affect other parts of an installation, alter another person’s experience and collectively reshape the behaviour of the system.

Improbable prototypes
Alongside Grain in the Signal, early Stable Diffusion experiments have drifted familiar tools and constructed objects into impossible hybrids.
These investigations connect with the material translations in Stable No.6 Fore Plane and Grain Against the Gale — with a quiet nod to the Infinite Improbability Drive.

About
My practice has developed through artist-led exhibitions, collaborative situations, moving image, participation and physical making.
I previously co-ran Left Leg Gallery, a nomadic artist-led project producing exhibitions, performances, cassette releases, zines and collaborative events. Current work brings those interests into dialogue with woodworking, printmaking, analogue video, sound, AI-assisted processes and interactive systems.
Luke Left The Studio carries that collaborative spirit forward through experiments, shared research and finite projects, with room for ideas to develop at their own pace.

Collaborate
Luke Left The Studio is an evolving and collaborative practice. I’m interested in conversations with artists, curators, makers, musicians, sound artists, creative technologists, designers, writers and organisations where shared research or different forms of expertise might change the direction of a project.
A collaboration might begin with a small experiment, an exchange of skills, a publication, a workshop or a temporary exhibition.
